The Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad provides its specialized services to the citizens of Knox County free of charge. Those services mainly consist of vehicle extrication. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “About three people are hurt in car crashes every minute”. Our ultimate goal is to arrive safely at an accident scene, and to use our experience and training to access the patient so EMS services can transport them to an emergency care facility.
Upon arrival at these calls, we may find individuals trapped inside their vehicles with life threatening injuries that may require immediate medical transport to a trauma center. Our trained personnel must extricate them from their vehicle to ready them for transportation. These extrications would involve us removing parts of the vehicle that is entrapping the patient.
As the third largest city in the State of Tennessee, Knoxville is fortunate to have many agencies and support services that assist people in our area that find themselves in unfortunate situations. These services support those that are homeless, hungry, suffer chronic diseases, at-risk youth, or similar circumstances. The Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc. supports those in our area that are misfortunate.
Whether you are a parent frantic because your child has drowned; or a victim trapped in a motor vehicle accident; or a couple traveling by small aircraft that has crashed during landing; or a construction worker who is covered with soil from a collapsed trench; or an agency that needs someone to provide medical care at a community event, be it large or small… The Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad is the designated provider for rescue for Knox County and is the only agency that can provide certain types of technical rescue, and the only agency in our community that has certain types of specialized equipment.
